Windows Vista Troubles…

I got my hands on Windows Vista, I restarted my current windows and booted from Vista DVD. Installation GUI looks great and pretty easy to understand (you have only one button “Install” :)), I start the installation, it asks me for some options (serial number, language & time zone, partition) I selected to format previously mentioned partition, after that windows started installing. Copying files went great. Then came the second part, expanding files, it was running fine until 83% then I got an error: “An error occurred lying down images” than I thought that can’t be good :) and only one button available “OK”, so I press that button and Windows starts reverting everything it has done… all that time wasted…
Then I tried it ones more, just in case windows changed it’s mind about installing on my computer :) but now instead of error at 83% I got error at 0% of expanding files… this can’t be good either… that’s when I got suspicious that vista didn’t do formating properly or there was some other file system error. Then I booted Bart’s PE and tried to format partition with NTFS full format, it took very very very long time… so I run chkdsk just in case. Chkdsk told me some bad news, that’s right, bad sectors, about 40KB of them. Tried using Maxtor HDD diagnostic utility, full scan told me something about error 673S57 and to contact Maxtor at www.maxtor.com.

OK so I disconnected my hard drive from my computer and tried to boot my old windows, but now I have another problem “BOOTMGR is missing”, when Vista said reverting back everything as before I guess it didn’t really meant everything. OK so I used some partition managers, tried to repair MBR but that didn’t help. Always same message… So I gave up for the time being and booted good old Knoppix and watched some movies :) Now I’m searching on Google and trying to find some solution for my problem…
